Below is the Summer Retreat Committee...Rowena, Linda W., Peggy, and (far right) Deb...with Linda B. who won the Friendship Blocks which participants brought to the retreat. Kudos to the committee for such a wonderful job completed! Click to see more photos below.
The second annual BBQG summer retreat was held at Heartland (south of Independence, TX) from June 27-29. Below are beginning photos from Friday night. Rowena gave the first short demonstration on applique. She also led periodic stretching exercises...GREAT for participants! The dates for the 2009 retreat are June 26-28...plan ahead and join the fun!
Our retreat project began with broderie purse. Each of four groups had an assignment to create borders around this block. Below, right, was most of Project Group 1. See the finished project far below.
What a lovely view from the dining room which was adjacent to our work room...and a short walking distance from our sleeping quarteres. The committee prepared gift bags presented at the Friday night meal. Centerpieces were like the one you see to the right.
Friday night's completed projects included: above, Linda B.'s quilt (she created the border around the blocks given to her after her two years as president); right, Linda W.'s "stained glass" iris quilt; and Peggy M.'s mantle hanging (the photo doesn't do it justice...material in the crosses shimmered). Of course, lots of participants were consulting and visiting with others; below, right, Deb and Jane look at the kit directions for Jane's purse project.
7/7/08- The following photos were submitted by Linda W. Most feature participants hard at work or finished projects. Thanks, Linda!
Great job on the project was done by the four groups of participants! The first group was shown planning above. Below are the other groups. All photos below were submitted by Theresa M.
Below are photos of Becky Goldsmith's quilts shown during her program about quilting on July 8.
These photos are from our Show 'n Tell following the program and meeting. Below are Kimberly D.'s latest quilts.
Above, left, Charlotte S.'s "scrappy baby quilt;" Center and left, Bunny D's lovely basket quilt was quilted by Linda B. Notice the flowers inside the basket handle...very impressive! Below are quilts created by Jane W. for her associates and friends.
Below, left, Mary Ellen B.'s ponies quilt; below, right, Peggy Cooper's whole-cloth quilt from a class.
Below, Kerry D.'s button banner quilts for May and March.
We are all thrilled to hear that Connie S. is now one of 80 NQA Certified Judges. Congratulations, Connie!! Her quilts, above and directly below, were quilted by Linda B.
Above, left, Jane G.'s quilt; above, right, Jean M.'s quilt. Below, left and right, two quilts created by JoAnn W. for their camper.
Below are photos from the July 10 workshop by Becky Goldsmith on Needle Turn Applique. Becky presented very practical and precise applique techniques which benefitted both beginners and those with previous applique experience. The photos show techniques which are explained in The New Applique Sampler available with other supplies from www.pieceocake.com. As a personal note, with Becky's techniques and the purchase of a marvelous needle threading device, I now feel confident enough to proceed with needed repairs on my grandmother's damaged quilts. Thanks, Becky! - Anne P.
Becky addressed techniques for both left- and right-handed work. We learned that Ott-type lights must be kept below eye-level for safety reasons.
Precise work was emphasized. Above, right, is the needle-threader which worked such miracles threading small needles.
We worked on techniques for the stem and leaf (inside and outside curves), the pointed flower cap (inner and outer points) and the circle.
Left and above, Marian D. and her sister. Below, left, Linda; right and below, more finished projects!
Sorry...there are more photos, but the page won't expand vertically anymore. What a great group with SO MANY great members and so much talent!!!
